In addition to feeding those around the world who battle starvation on a day-to-day basis, Stop Hunger Now's meal packaging program was created due to lag time in shipping food and supplies overseas in the event of an emergency.
Volunteers are welcome to help package food, which will be stored at Stop Hunger Now's warehouses for distribution. Prior to each hands-on event, there will be a 15 minute educational presentation on hunger, which will include training for the packaging process.
The ingredients and overhead expenses for packaging the food through the meal packaging program cost 25 cents per serving, not including shipping. Stop Hunger Now provides these ingredients but needs your financial support to keep this program running. We ask that groups that package meals raise the funds to cover the cost of the meals they package for the hungry.
The foods to be packaged by volunteers are dehydrated, fortified rice-soy meals containing over 20 vitamins and minerals especially formulated for the undernourished. The meals will be vacuum-sealed in bags three millimeters thick, allowing them to be stored in Stop Hunger Now's warehouses for a minimum of three years and for as long as five years.
In ongoing efforts to end world hunger, Stop Hunger Now's goal is to build at least one warehouse on each of the major continents, keeping a minimum of five to 10 million servings of food at each location. Stop Hunger Now wants to duplicate the meal packaging program in several regions of the country, as well as overseas.
